Sofa Louis XVI
A Louis XVI-style sofa in painted beechwood and silk. French, 19th century…
With slightly curved back, sloping armrests, and a broad, slightly undulating seat. Standing on 4 straight stop-fluted legs. Richly carved all over with neoclassical motifs including pearls, acanthus leaves, flowers, cris-crossed garlands and quivers. Painted in a cream colored paint with signs of an old soft-yellow undercoat coming through in places.
Covered in a blue, cream, and tan jaspe lampas fabric ‘Lampas Sanray Bleu’ by Lelievre (shows signs of use) (this fabric is still available from Lelievre).
French, Louis XVI-style, second half of the 19th century.
In good condition. The woodwork and structure are solid. The fabric is in generally good condition, but the left side shows fading and wear, and there is wear to the seat and armrest pads.
A charming small sofa with a beautifully patinated and distressed paint finish. Fantastic carving.
