Commode George III

George III bowfront chest of drawers. English, 18th century…

In mahogany and mahogany veneers, with a wide, gently curving bowfront that houses seven drawers in five rows, of various heights and widths, all with cock-beaded edges. Drawers with locks (one looks to be a replacement), with six modern keys in two sizes (65 and 55) (do not fit / operate all the locks). The drawer pulls and escutcheons are oval-shaped and of brass, and have neoclassical urn motifs. It stands on shaped bracket feet.

English, George III period, circa 1790 / 1800.

In good general condition, to be restored. The top with a visible crack (ancient restoration), and other old restorations visible. Some losses to the veneer.

This piece has loads of character, with its lovely gentle bowfront curve, its understated brass details, and the beautiful grain and warm patina of the mahogany.
