Armchairs Louis XVI Jansen

A pair of Louis XVI-style armchairs in gilt beechwood. French, attr. to Jansen, circa 1890…

With slightly curved, medallion shaped backrests, curved armrests that meet the seat rail with stylized Greek key motif on each side, a rounded seat, and four tapered and stop-fluted legs topped with rosettes.

The molding is decorated with ‘piaster frieze’ carving of superb detail – subtle and delicate. Finished in a lustrous patinated gilt finish.

Newly covered in a beige and red silk drugget fabric with a geometric floral lattice design from Tassinari & Chatel.

Attributed to Maison Jansen Paris. [for comparison, see a nearly identical set of 4 armchairs, signed ‘Jansen Paris’, sold at Christies King St. on 10 Nov 2021, lot 121 - sale of the stock of the London dealer Charlie Mackinnon].

Excellent condition overall. Renewed upholstery and new fabric. Restorations to the gilt finish.
