A Louis XV armchair in carved and painted beechwood and upholstery. French, 18th century. The armchair has a flat, violin-shaped back, curved armrest, and a generous shaped seat. On cabriolet legs. Flower and leaf motif carving decorates the back, seat apron, and knees. Painted in a cream colored paint with glimpses of a green under-paint showing through in places. Upholstered in a green fabric with discreet floral design.

The chair is the work of a Parisian menuisier (master joiner / chairmaker) from the Louis XV period, circa 1750.

Excellent overall condition, displaying nicks and wear as normal for its age. Structurally sound with only minor restorations. The upholstery is in good condition.

This piece, with its generous and inviting proportions, its flowing sinuous lines, and its simple and charming carved floral motifs, is a typical and lovely example of an armchair from the Louis XV period. It displays the lightness of design and playfulness that made LXV furniture so well loved, and give it its enduring appeal.
