A pair of vases in painted and gilt porcelain, French, 19th century…
A pair of amphora-shaped ‘porcelain de Paris’ vases with scrolling arms that terminate in rams-heads. Green ground with areas of biscuit porcelain, gilding, and hand painted decoration in gold glaze of laurel wreaths, eagles, imperial bees, and stars.
Signed on the underside of the base (illeg?)
Good overall condition. Wear to the gilding along edges and at base (see pictures). No chips, cracks, or repairs.
These vases are highly decorative. The lovely green ground and simply painted decoration of the Eagle and the Bee are classic symbols of the Empire period.
