Console d’Applique

Petit console d’Applique in carved and painted wood, 17th – 18th century…

The molded, rectilinear plateau sits atop a highly ornate carved motif, which consists of a central cartouche surrounded by scrolls, garlands, and a scallop shell, surmounted by a crown, and flanked on either side by a seraph gazing upward.

Damages and losses and battered over time as can be seen in the photos, but clearly a cherished piece. With a wonderful patina.

Delicately carved, with lovely details particularly on the faces of the angels. This is a truly charming piece that is expressive and evocative in so many ways. Lots of character.
