Candelabra Louis XVI

A pair of 2-arm candelabra in gilt bronze and marble, French, 19th century...

Finely detailed and sculpted 2-arm candelabra in gilt bronze, in the form of bacchanal putti with grapevine garland crowns, holding aloft a pair of cornucopias, each surmounted with a floral plumed candle receptacle.

Mounted atop an oval base of Carrara marble fronted with a ‘frise de rinceaux’ or frieze with scroll of interlaced vines and grapes. Raised on 4 small bronze toupie feet.

Charming pieces – very expressive and engaging. These candelabra are an allegory of the harvest – they are literally infants trumpeting the harvest.
