Grand Louis XV armchair in green and cream painted beechwood, France, 18th century…

With a large, flat, violin shaped backrest, graceful welcoming armrests, a wide seat, and curved legs. The frame is carved all over with asymmetrical cartouches and rococo motifs of muscles, shells, flowers and leaves. Painted in a rich and patinated pale green lacquer with cream highlights. Covered in an ancient multi-chrome tapestry of large flower and frond design in green, blue, cream and red that is nicely matched to the colors and spirit of the armchair.

Louis XV period, circa 1740.

In generally good condition - to be further restored (or not) to your tastes. Structurally sound. Reinforcements to the underside, losses and old restorations visible. Tapestry shows signs of wear but in fair condition for its age.

A special and charming piece, full of character. This lovely grand dame of an armchair proudly wears her past dramas as well as her enduring charms…
