Four Gilt Louis XV Chairs
Four chairs in gilt beechwood, French, early Louis XV, circa 1740…
A suite of four large side chairs, each with a high, flat back, a wide seat, and cambered legs ending in semi-hoof feet. Carved all over with palmettes, shells and acanthus leaf motifs. Stunning 2-tone gilding. Of particular note is the intricate pastilles and acanthus leaf decorations engraved on the reverse side of the chairs (very rare).
Covered in a woven damask fabric from the Lelievre archives, with a stylized cartouche and floral motif in bronze linen against a blue jaspe ground.
Late Regence, early Louis XV, circa 1740.
In superb condition in every aspect – woodwork solid, re-gilt with exceptional quality and finesse, and newly upholstered. Truly a special, stunning, and rare suite of chairs.
