Armchair of carved and cream painted beechwood. Upholstered in green fabric.

Flat, violin-shaped seat back topped with carved floral motif. The generous shaped seat has a carved flower and leaf motif at the apron front. On cabriole legs.

The chair is the work of a Parisian menuisier from the Louis XV period, circa 1750.

Excellent overall condition, displaying nicks and wear as normal for its age. Structurally sound with only minor restorations. Paint distressed in places, with occasional glimpses of a green undercoat. The upholstery is in very good condition.

This piece is a typical and lovely example of a Louis XV armchair. Generous proportions, open and inviting, flowing lines, decorative floral motifs.  It is the lightness of design and playfulness, on display in this chair, that gives Louis XV furniture its well loved and enduring appeal.
